Little Bretzels trip to Lithuania

sixth and last stop: Karmelave, Palemono, Kaunas – Breda

In total traveled: 3250 KM

In the last two days we met family and friends of Muni in the greater Kaunas region.

Thursday we went to the small town of Karmelava which is in the north-east of Kaunas. In Karmelava is a well know traditional restaurant for the national dish: Cepelinai. The Cepelinai which found there, have been much larger and according to the grandmother of Muni also the orignal size. They are out of half a kilogram of potato and meat. Of course, it was very tasty again and we enjoyed a lot our lunch there.

On Friday, we visited the other part of her family in the small village of Palemono in Kaunas. We had very affectionate reception. But I also have to admit that the four guardian dogs and I most likely won’t become the closest friends. However, we had a very lovely lunch and afternoon with the uncle, grandmother and the kids. Especially the small tomcat kitten, which found shelter at the grandmothers place after the mother left him alone in the neighborhood, was very cute and it was a lot of fun to play with him!

Around 7pm, we went back to the city of Kaunas and to the other grandmothers place where we spent the whole week. We decided to go rather early to bed since our flight was this morning very early at 7am from Vilnius. Luckily, the uncle of Muni picked us up and brought us to the airport. Nevertheless, we had to get up at 4am and we started to drive at 4:30am. Around 100 km’s and one hour later we arrived at the airport.

The check-in was rather uncomplicated and quickly done. The security control was a bit crowded since 7 flights were leaving with in one and a half hours out of Vilnius, but also this was no problem. We had a small breakfast before the flight and went then to the boarding.

On board of the aircraft, the crew welcomed us and checked our tickets directly. Luckily for us, they told us to take the seats 12E and 12F, which are located in an exit row of the Wizzair A320. As it seems, the family which booked this row had a small child and was not allowed to sit there. The aircraft was the same as on the flight towards Lithuania, an Airbus A320 with the registration HA-LWX. Unfortunately, not a new registration for my collection.

After 2 hours uneventful flight, we landed in Eindhoven. We collected our luggage and took the bus to the train station. Somehow, it felt like half Eindhoven decided to take the train to the Hague and the train was very crowded which resulted into standing 45 minutes until Breda.

In Breda, we took as always the short bus from the station to our houses.

Of course, I have some pictures from yesterday and the flight today:

That’s it. 10 interesting and nice days in Lithuania are behind us and I enjoyed it. Especially the food, the beer, the friendly people and the beautiful landscape which reminds me a lot of Sweden will stay in my memories.

I hope you liked my first little blog about my trip to Lithuania!

Next Monday we will travel to Bavaria to my grandparents place in the Aschaffenburg region and in 12 days the two Bretzels will fly together to Singapore!

See you soon,
